Thevetia peruviana Be-still Tree

Thevetia peruviana, Be -Still Tree

This tall shrub or small tree from Mexico and the West Indies has sweetly fragrant satiny yellow flowers with a perfume reminiscent of a tea rose. That may be the only good thing to say about this shrub as the the large heart shaped "fruit" which follow the flowers are extremely poisonous and are a "popular" method of committing suicide by the poor farmers of southern India as told in the recent German produced television documentary India Reborn.
